Yara Shahidi And Her Mom, Keri Shahidi Rock Big Hair And Green Track Suits
May 23, 2018 by Seymone Brutus
via Yara Shahidi Instagram |
How cute is it to see the ultimate #mommyandme photos from head to toe π Yara Shahidi shares a bright, bold and beautiful photo on Instagram of her and her mom leading with big luscious hair and slim color block tracksuits by Tory Burch.
What I love most about it is, Yara Shahidi is 18 years old and is still opting in to match with her mom. You can't find too many young ladies doing that.
Yara and her mom have different hair textures, but both are full of volume! Keri proudly rocks her fro-licious hair and proudly proclaims she has type 4C hair by using the hashtag in one of her previous Instagram posts. She even has a highlight titled "Them Curls" to share how she cares for her hair.
I personally share the same texture and love to see how women manage and style their kinky coily curly hair.
Here's Keri Shahidi's Instagram Stories from her "Them Curls" Highlight π
Thanks so much Mrs. Keri Shahidi for inspiring Moms, especially with #4CHair ➿❤️
The beautiful Michelle Obama keeps on inspiring us with photos of her past and sharing her family upbringing, her first-time college experience, and how it shaped her life.
I love her beautiful childhood photo in pretty pastel pink among her parents whom she matches her mother in the same color, endearing look and hairstyle.
Their classic curls look like a soft rollerset, acheived with the pink and orange soft sponge rollers. How many of you remember those?
During the summer months, I used to watch my grandmother every night, roll up her shortcut and tie up her hair with a satin scarf. Guess what, I found some! If you love soft curls check them out!

K. Michelle Inspires Women And Moms Everywhere With Her Openness To Share Her Silicone Removal And Natural Butt
May 21, 2018 by Seymone Brutus
K. Michelle is a notable, talented singer and mother. She's relatable on so many different levels, but what I love most is her most recent post, sharing that she has removed silicone from her body and now gracefully strutting with her natural butt and curves.
In our present time, this is so important for women and girls everywhere to see. It's popular to have a body that exudes sex appeal to men and conform to world's trending standard and show it off. This type of attention can bring a whirlwind of emotions and insecurities.
In addition, there are health precautions that are sometimes inevitable when having plastic surgery.
You have to be you and love you. I promise God has someone for each and every one of us.
Thank you, K. Michelle, for being the first to show the world you can undo silicone implants and love yourself afterward. π

One of the toughest decisions I've had approaching labor and delivery is how I'm going to wear my hair. What hairstyle will I have?
For my first labor and delivery, I had a sew in with straight extensions. After 24 hours of labor, I rocked a low sleek ponytail. It was actually quite uncomfortable laying back on my ponytail in the hospital bed. Second delivery, I had a protective style called rope twists. There were so beautiful and convenient. Instead of heavy braids, these light twists with extensions allowed my scalp to breathe and I happily placed my hair in a top knot while preparing to birth my second son.
My first baby girl was one of the most special pregnancies. At the end of my pregnancy, I went to Orlando to get my hair done in another protective style called faux locs. It was so pretty and gave me an opportunity to see how I'd look if I'd ever lock my hair. Unfortunately, this hairstyle was very heavy and bulky so my top knot repeatedly fell during labor and delivery. Nevertheless, my hair was neat and beautiful.
For my most recent labor and delivery, my 4th child and precious 2nd baby girl, she came by total surprise. My hair was not done or planned ahead of time. I wore my own pretty kinks in a top bun, however, I didn't have any of my hair products. Without my hair products, my hair tends to be dry. So water was my best friend and while busy, bringing an angel into the world, I never thought to tell my husband to grab some hair stuff.
This is why I LOVE seeing what new moms and veteran moms choices of hairstyle for their labor and delivery. It's absolutely an inspiration to see what works for them and what makes them feel beautiful.
Tia Mowry is such a sweet, transparent soul. I love how she shares tips as a wife and mother without the obsessions of Hollywood. Instead of a chiseled 4 pack days or even flat stomach days and weeks after pregnancy, she shares the realness of what everyday moms face after their pregnancy journey and giving birth to their sweet child.
How nerve wrecking can it be to worry about your newborn baby and a "sexy" physique. The #snapback is a real thing that people are waiting to see after every pregnancy. But the reality is that your size, weight, and shape should not be according to media's standards, but according to what you and your partner deem beautiful.
For example, after having my 4th child my body has changed immensely. I have curves and bulges I've never had before and my husband and I are excited and embracing every inch.
Motherhood graduates your body from a girl to a woman. And women should define themselves individually, not by an outside standard.

Thank you, Mrs. Tia Mowry, for always being such a beautiful example to look up to, encouraging moms everywhere to love themselves and find ways to manage real mother-hood. π

Do Women Sacrifice Their Hair For Their Emotions
May 9, 2018 by Seymone Brutus
Women are often associated with their emotions and I wonder how far do we take it? Do we let it affect our health, our relationships, and our appearance? Do we dread to wear our emotions on our head as a cry for attention or because it is unmanageable?
There's days that I become so weary and so overwhelmed that a simple "no" can come heavy on me like a wet blanket. I begin to replay the conversation or situation and find a million other things I could've said differently before I received a response.
Sometimes I keep a poker face, and other times my eyes tell it all.
On the other hand, my hair enables me to deflect anything that comes my way. One car can cut me off in traffic and another car can speed up and not let me over, but I'm still jamming to music and fluffing up my hair in the mirror!
According to Scientific American, "Women were not universally more expressive than men, as men were more likely to demonstrate anger-based facial behaviors than women."
So then what's really our problem?
I think we often to put on a stigma or apply to ourselves what we've been taught on TV and seen reenacted by people around us. How many episodes have shown a mom wrecked around crying children and her hair in frizzy knots? How many times have they shown a lost Dad not knowing how to prepare a bottle or even prepare a bowl of cereal for children? I know my husband is not the only one who can run our children on a dime when I'm absent (of course when he chooses to).
That's why it's so important that we don't look to fulfill the roles we've seen and be bold, confident and relentless enough to be who we think we should be. Do what we think we should do. Don't conform to society or play it safe. What would you wear if no one was around? What color would you dye your hair if all comments were muted?
Don't sacrifice your hair, your life for any temporary feeling. You were created by a King. Walk boldly in that!
If you would've told me around this time last year that I'd be wearing my REAL hair every day, I'd laugh and say yeah right. My life is way too busy to wear my own hair and it look up to my preference. Well, what was really my preference? Even my virgin hair extensions have changed from uniformed curls to wash and go's.
Right not I'm loving beautiful healthy hair and big luscious curls! Here are 3 products that keep my everyday high puff looking afrolicious!
1. Water + Extra Virgin Olive Oil + Small Spray Bottle From Walmart
Every day I have to refresh my hair with moisture. My hair is absolutely thirrsssty lol and the sole ingredient water is better than any concoction. I add extra virgin oil to add sheen and shine to my hair.
In the travel/trial bins at WalMart, you can find so many helpful things-- including transparent colorful spray bottles that are absolutely cute and durable enough to use daily!
Here's similar spray bottles online at Target!

This product is so thick and applies softly into my hair, and my hair feels like a cloud. I love how soft and moisturized my hair feels and it springs up like a cloud too! Don't apply too much or you'll have to wait until it dissolves. Sometimes I'm guilty of being heavy-handed, but it's nothing air drying won't fix.
There was so much hype around this gel. EVERY natural hair blogger was using it. I finally decided to try it and I've been in love ever since. It's not like the typical gel I remember using with my spritz updo's and genie ponytails. It holds my hair into place and still leaves my hair soft. I can use it daily to lay down the short hairs and create some baby hair action with my edges. The downside is it doesn't hold my edges down after a long hot day, but it does for my baby girl!
That's why I favor this gel so much, it's gentle enough to hold my baby's hair into place and it isn't hard, crunchy or drying at all. The makers of this have struck gold!
What do you use daily on your hair type?
What's your favorite product to hold your edges?
