Let's Talk Hair, Family And Business With Meghan Joy Yancy

October 6, 2017 by Seymone Brutus

I'm so excited for this opportunity to get to know a little more about you! I love how authentic you are sharing family moments and you gracefully give insight. You're using your platform to share the depth of your beliefs and inspire others! I admire that so much! Let's dive right in!

  1. Your radiance surely shines from within. And at the same time, you have such creative, edgy colors in your hair that melt so beautifully! From root to tips, what are the colors of your hair?

Thank you! So, recently it was a dark brown at the roots that faded into a white blonde look. I added what I call my “Unicorn” colors and had some pastel pink, purple, blue and mint streaks in. But, because I love switching it up, I have the same dark roots but now a very light golden blonde throughout the rest of my hair.
  1. You have a large, beautiful family, and you share such candid moments! Is hair ever a concern for you?

You are so kind. I enjoy doing hair and so usually take the time to maintain my own and my children’s but I’m also realistic that sometimes, there just isn’t time in the day to get it all done and we can deal with messy hair on those days.

  1. Back to your Hair color-- Is it hard to maintain? What are your favorite products for color treated hair?

I graduated from Cosmetology school in 2006 and so have learned the skill set to do my hair myself, which is a huge blessing! I have all my supplies at home and can usually keep my hair in the condition I desire very easily. I like to use a lot of natural products and home-made hair masks.

  1. What is the texture of your Hair? Do you use a specific brand or type of hair products?

My natural hair can’t make up its mind. It’s very thick and on the more frizzy side. The front of my hair is quite straight and the back of my hair has waves. I am a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils and use their Lavender Mint Shampoo and Conditioner which contains extracts, vitamins and essential oils to help remove buildup.

  1. I love your loose waves! It so effortless, yet so pretty! Do you use hot tools?

Thanks so much! Yes, it has taken me a few years to perfect the art of the curling rod. I am pretty low maintenance and I have 6 people’s hair to do in our home so I can’t spend hours every day doing my own hair. I normally wash my hair about once a week. The next morning, I curl my whole head with my curling rod and it lasts me for the next 5-6 days. Each day, the curls are little less loose which gives me some beachy waves by Day 6.

  1. Do you prep your hair at night before bed?

I normally brush it through before bed at night to get rid of any tangles and will add in some essential oils.

  1. How old are your daughters? Are they particular about their hair?

My girls are 8, 7 and 3. They normally let me do whatever I need to do with their hair but sometimes have a preference. My favorite part is after they have sat for hours for me while working on it and then go look in the mirror once I have finished and the sweetest smile spreads across their faces. I always like to create something new for them.

  1. What advice do you have for moms who have a large family but feel like they have little time to style her hair the way she likes it?

Two words. Dry shampoo. I make my own with arrowroot powder, baking cocoa and rosemary, peppermint and cedarwood essential oils. When I’m feeling my scalp getting a little too oily, I dab just a little in with a makeup brush and I am good to go for another day or too. Plus, I’m adding some great oils to my scalp to support hair growth and health.

  1. During pregnancy do you still have the energy and motivation to care for your hair?

Yes, for the most part. Since my routine is pretty low maintenance, it’s pretty easy for me to keep up with. I recently thinned my hair out (although I am grateful for a thick head of hair) but it has cut back on my curl time even more.

  1. What’s the best advice you've ever received about being a wife, mom, and entrepreneur?

I think the best advice I’ve ever received is to balance it all. Spending daily time improving each area of who I am and who is in my life. Not spreading myself too thin but knowing that I can be a mom and pursue passions in life at the same time. I can better myself as a wife and grow my business at the same time and that balance is possible if it is important to me.

Thank you so much for your time! You are truly an inspiration!

Seriously, so sweet! Thank you for letting me be a part of this! I love everything you are doing!
